Q. We have just had two panels of cedar with glue line failure. Normally, we have excellent results. We are using a two-part cross-linking PVA emulsion adhesive with a catalyst. We are checking the glue edges for squareness and flatness; we are positive that we have a good, even glue spread; we are keeping the open time to less than ten minutes; we are making sure we have a four-hour clamp time; and we do not machine for 24 hours. Our press has manual pressure. What should we be looking for?

Q. We are looking to make some legs that need to be as strong as possible. What characteristics should we be looking for?

Q. Is it possible to kiln dry freshly sawn, very wide (16 - 18 inch), 1-inch thick white pine lumber with minimal cupping? By minimal I mean, I want to be able to plane the wide boards down to 3/4 or 5/8 after it's dried to 6 percent.

Q. We use steam in several processes, including the kilns. The new boiler supervisor mentioned that we needed a desuperheater as the steam was too hot after the steam goes through a pressure reducer. What is a desuperheater and why is the steam too hot?

Q. I just bought some lumber from a small mill and they were not certain but thought it was honey locust, but it might be elm. Any ideas how to separate the two?
