IKEA's U.S. expansion prompts construction of Midwest distribution center

JOLIET, Ill. – Swedish ready-to-assemble furniture maker and retailer IKEA has begun construction on its new Midwest distribution center located in Joliet, Illinois - 48 miles southwest of Chicago. Set to open in the spring of 2018, the approximately 1.25-million-square-foot distribution center will be designed and built by Gray Construction, a nationally recognized engineering, architecture and construction firm. Gray has designed and built more than 250 distribution facilities across the U.S., including other IKEA distribution centers.

Furniture CFO pleads guilty to bilking $18 million from lenders

Norman D’Souza, the former chief financial officer and vice president of finance of a New Jersey-based furniture wholesaler and retailer and of sister-firm Echelon furniture manufacturing in Indiana, pled guilty to defrauding lenders to obtain $17 million in loans from a commercial bank based in New York City and $1 million in municipal loans from Gas City, Indiana.
