Health Canada Proposes Ban of Drop-Side Cribs

OTTAWA - The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health, today announced that the Government is taking action to further protect the safety of infants and children by launching a public consultation process which could lead to a new prohibition against drop-side cribs.

Treating Wood with Acetylation Process

Making its debut at the International Woodworking Fair in August was Accoya “high-technology wood.” Manufacturer Accsys Technologies demonstrated Accoya wood treated with a modification process that it says differs from other modified woods. Calling it “transformed to its core” Accsys says Accoya uses an acetylation conversion process that allows woodworkers to machine, coat and glue it like “normal” wood, with a durability and dimensional stability that matches or exceeds even that of tropical hardwoods.

Some Parting Thoughts from IWF 2010

Never mind that this year’s International Woodworking Fair, Aug. 25-28 in Atlanta, was smaller than any I have attended since my first in 1986 and had 300-plus fewer exhibitors than 2008. It was still daunting and left me to wonder how anyone of the estimated 11,000 attendees that came to the show could have adequately covered it, especially if they were only there for one or two days, which I surmise from traffic patterns was the max for most.
