Murphy Engineered Wood Products Building LVL Plant

SUTHERLIN, OR – Murphy Engineered Wood Products is building a laminated veneer lumber plant at the site of its former plywood plant that was destroyed by fire in 2005. According to Expansion Management, Murphy is receiving state and local tax exemptions as an incentive to build the 215,000-square-foot facility at an estimated total investment of $61 million. Bassett Furniture Reports $2.4 Million 2Q Loss

BASSETT, VA – Bassett Furniture Industries Inc. reported a net loss of $2.4 million for the second quarter of 2007. Sales were $75.4 million, down 14% from the $87.7 million sold in the second quarter of 2006. The company attributed the shortfall primarily to continued soft furniture retail conditions.

Thos. Moser Apprentices to Receive Journeyman Certificates

AUBURN, ME — The first class of apprentices to complete wood furniture company, Thos. Moser’s four-year program will receive their Journeyman Certificates on July 11, the company announced. The Apprentice Program was launched at Thos. Moser in December 2002, and was the first registered cabinetmaker apprentice program in the state of Maine.

Steelcase Says Earnings Exceed Expectations

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Steelcase Inc. announced first quarter revenue of $808.5 million and net income of $33.6 million. Reported revenue increased 11.2% compared to $727.3 million in the prior year quarter, which was ahead of company estimates. Internationally, revenue grew 17.0%, while sales in North America increased 11.2% over the prior year.

Quaker Fabric Likely to Liquefy Assets
