Shuttered sawmills getting funding help to reopen

Montana state legislators introduced legislation that it believes will help provide low-interest loans to reopen shuttered sawmills.One such mill, Pyramid Lumber, announced in March 2024, that it will permanently close the Seeley Lake mill and auction its equipment on March 31, 2024. The mill, which provided jobs in Missoula County, Montana, for 75 years, delivered the last load of logs through the mill, which were processed in early July.

Legislation would designate American hardwood products a home energy efficiency improvement

U.S. Representatives Glenn Thompson (R-PA) and Terri Sewell (D-AL) introduced the Solid American Hardwood Tax Credit Act to allow individual taxpayers to include solid American manufactured hardwood products, such as flooring and paneling, as qualified home energy efficiency improvements under the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit.
