Nonresidential construction spending down 0.2% in May, reports ABC

WASHINGTON — National nonresidential construction spending decreased 0.2% in May, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data published today by the U.S. Census Bureau. On a seasonally adjusted annualized basis, nonresidential spending totaled $1.237 trillion.Spending was down on a monthly basis in half of the nonresidential subcategories. Private nonresidential spending was down 0.4%, while public nonresidential construction spending was practically unchanged in May.

Furniture restoration company goes up in flames

POLK COUNTY, Iowa — Firefighters from multiple communities assisted in fighting a large commercial building fire overnight just north of the Des Moines city limits.The fire at The Furniture Professionals, a furniture restoration business in Des Moines, Iowa, was considered a complete loss, according to local news reports.According to WHO13, a Des Moines news station, reported that just after 9:00 p.m., a patrol sergeant with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office spotted the fire.

Building materials group comments on OSHA's proposed heat and safety rule

On Wednesday, June 25, the American Building Materials Alliance (ABMA) testified before the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regarding its proposed Heat Injury and Illness Prevention rule. Representing the lumber and building materials (LBM) industry, ABMA urged OSHA to recognize the effectiveness of existing heat safety plans already in place across the industry.
