Universal Forest Products Acquires Wood Pallet Manufacturer

SNOHOMISH, WA - Universal Forest Products, Inc. (Nasdaq: UFPI) acquired operating assets of Nepa Pallet and Container Co., Inc., a manufacturer of wood pallets, crates, containers and bins for agricultural and industrial customers.

Nepa Pallet says it is the oldest automated manufacturer of pallets and bins in the United States. Nepa was founded in1937 to fulfill a government contract to produce stevedore pallet boards.

In the late 1980’s the company was sold to the Sherry family. The purchase of Nepa by UFP Washington, LLC,  to enter that geographic market without adding capacity to the marketplace, to continually expand its industrial business, and to grow by acquiring successful companies.

Nepa has facilities in Snohomish, Yakima and Wenatchee, WA, and had 12 month sales through September 2012 of $25 million.  Patrick Sherry, co-owner and president of Nepa, will remain as general manager of operations.
