U.K. Kitchen Furniture Market Experiencing Modest Sales Increase

OAKVILLE, ON -- Aktrin, a report writing and international consulting firm dedicated to the furniture industry, announced July 12 it has published a report on the U.K. furniture market. The study stated there have been modest increases in both the volume and value of kitchen furniture since 1999, although competition has remained fierce throughout the industry and several companies have gone into receivership. Total sales of U.K. kitchen furniture, which as a product group accounts for 23% of the total domestic furniture market, reached $2,343 million in 2006, compared with $2,231 million in 2005 and $2,171 million in 2004, with total sales for 2007 expected to reach $2,384 million. Imports of kitchen furniture totaled $233.5 million in 2006, compared to $215.7 million in 2005 and $188.3 million in 2004.

The report also said that the emphasis within the furniture industry has moved consistently from manufacturing to retailing over the last decade, and that the private sector of the market accounts for the majority of sales of kitchen furniture with a 92% share.
