Tricky joinery: Building Abe Lincoln's impossible mystery mallet

Third Coast Craftsman shows how he built Abraham Lincoln's fabled impossible mystery puzzle mallet and the tapered ramped sliding dovetails needed to make it work.

"Legend has it, Abraham Lincoln designed this mallet way back in the day, because he wanted to come up with a way to make a mallet with a head that would never loosen or slide off the handle," Craftsman says. "Now the problem with these tapered dovetails, is that they make it impossible to put that mallet on the handle."

The video has amassed nearly half a million views in just four days. Third Coast Craftsman has 350,000 subscribers on YouTube.
