United Furniture, a Mississippi-based upholstery and case goods manufacturer, will hire up to 500 employees across the U.S. - mainly at its production plants in California, North Carolina, and Mississippi.

Heritage Home Group is selling its Lane Furniture business to United Furniture Industries, including Lane's 750,000-sq.ft. upholstery plant and 202,000 sq.ft. Royal Development recliner mechanism facility.

United Furniture Industries said it will use a former Linwood Furniture plant in North Carolina for distribution of its imported residential furniture products. The estimated 400,000-square-foot facility will be used for storage and distribution of bedroom and casual dining room furniture kits from Malaysia and Vietnam, to be sold under the Simmons brand.

United Furniture Industries will locate its distribution operations in the former Lane Furniture distribution facility in Wren, MS. The project will create 50 new jobs at the Wren location as well as 50 new manufacturing jobs throughout United Furniture’s Amory, Nettleton and Okolona, MS facilities.

Wood plant expansions & reshoring accelerate. U.S. manufacturing continues to rise, with industrial production up 4.3 percent in June compared to the same period a year ago, according to recent figures from the Federal Reserve.

United Furniture Industries moved one-step closer to opening a manufacturing and distribution center in the Winston-Salem area after $150,000 in performance-based incentives was approved by the Forsyth County commissioners.

United Furniture, planning expansion, is looking at manufacturing sites around the U.S. The 3,000-employee company, with 4 million square feet of capacity in Mississippi, California, and North Carolina, would add another 1 million.

Simmons Upholstery manufacturer United Furniture Industries plans to expand operations at its Nettleton, MS, facility. The company said it will invest $277,000 in the project, which will create a minimum of 100 new jobs.
