Limab’s new BoardProfiler 3D is an entirely three-dimensional inline measuring system for sawn timber. The board scanning system for dimensional measurements and detection of defects was displayed at Ligna 2013. The new product builds on the success of an earlier generation BoardProfiler, says the company, and features a new laser profile sensor that provides a more accurate and detailed analysis of the board than was previously possible. Defects such as holes, cracks and knots as small as 2 mm² can be detected with the system. The system measures boards with high accuracy in production speeds up to rates of 200 boards per minute and is unaffected by board movement or vibrations, adds Limab. The system is Windows-based and provides users with all measurement values required, including complete vane information, optimization of cutting for trimmers, reject/turning before edgers and more. The BoardProfiler 3D records thickness, width, length and form error. Measurements can be used to control the cut-off so the final piece of wood complies with a customer’s specific shape tolerances. The modular design makes it possible to adapt the system with new or existing sorting, planing or edging systems, says the company.
