I kept this cutting from a mesquite tree on our farm before we sold it and moved back into town. I have sanded it down to a nice finish but as you can see from the photos there is some cracking. I was wondering what next steps should I take to preserve it. I've considered rubbing it with mineral oil and then spraying it with laquer , but was wondering what the best way to go would be.
