Georgia-Pacific invests $120M in technology at lumber mill

Georgia-Pacific recently invested $120 million into Pineland Lumber in Pineland, Texas, making it the largest sawmill in the South. As a result of the improvements and new technology, Pineland Lumber is now positioned as a major competitor in the forest products industry, allowing the facility to better serve Georgia-Pacific's partners, and launching an exciting new chapter in its long and successful history.

AkzoNobel unveils $55M expansion of High Point campus

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — AkzoNobel has opened a new best-in-class Research and Development (R&D) Center in High Point, N.C. The reportedly $55 million expansion functions as a product development facility and customer support center for the Wood Coatings business. The company’s community of North America R&D Centers supporting the Performance Coatings businesses includes laboratories in Troy, Michigan, Strongsville, Ohio, Houston, Texas, Flying Hills, Pennsylvania, and Lancaster, South Carolina.

Havertys recalls recliner chair line due to fall hazard

Havertys Furniture Company, Atlanta, has recalled its Concord dual power recliner chairs due to a potential fall hazard.  When the chair is reclined and weight is applied to the chair back while returning to the upright position, the metal power mechanism assembly can bend, and cause the chair back to detach, posing a fall hazard to consumers. According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, the company received nine reports of the chair back detaching including two consumers who reported injuries involving the back, neck and hip.
