Historic Pine Plinth Could Sell for $500,000

A pine wood component discarded during a remodeling job will go on auction, and could sell for $500,000. The plinth has special significance because it is the last piece of original millwork from a White House remodeling job completed in 1817 - a restoration after the British torched the building in 1812.

World's Tallest Timber Building Now Under Construction; To Rise 10 Stories

Cross laminated timbers are being used in mass quantities for the tallest wood building so far: a 121-unit, 10-story apartment complex in London. Architects Waugh Thistleton, CLT and engineers Ramboll say the most exciting aspect of the project is its sheer size and its completion thousands of cubic meters of concrete. It will save 2,400 tons of carbon, compared to an equivalent block with a concrete frame.

Lead Renovation Reform Gets Thumbs Up by Remodeling Groups

Reforms to lead abatement rules for professional renovators and remodelers were introduced in the U.S. Senate, and both the Window & Door Makers and the National Lumber & Building Materials Dealers associations signed on. The law, say the groups, would reduce costly requirements of Environmental Protection Agency rules for which they says EPA has provided inadequate support.
