Universal Forest Products expands into hardwood with Indiana firm purchase

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Universal Forest Products Inc. has announced that one of its affiliates has closed on the purchase of certain assets of Quality Hardwood Sales, LLC, a Nappanee, Ind.-based manufacturer and supplier of hardwood products, including components for cabinets used in homes and recreational vehicles. This is Universal’s first operation devoted to hardwood products. Quality Hardwood saw net sales of $30 million in 2016. The company’s management will remain.

Arauco signs supply contracts for new Michigan panel plant

GRAYLING, Mich. - Arauco, investing in the construction of its massive particleboard plant with a planned capacity of 800,000 square meters per year in Grayling, Michigan, has purchased for the first time a complete plant from Dieffenbacher. The two companies decided to work together in January 2016, followed by a phase of detailed engineering and concluding with the signing of supply contracts at the end of 2016.

Buyer sought for closed Menck Windows high-tech plant

CHICOPEE, Mass. -- Menck USA has closed its high-tech window manufacturing operation and a buyer is being sought. According to MassLive, Menck shut down the factory in mid-January after investors decided not to put more money into the enterprise, according to a letter to creditors released to The Republican and MassLive by attorney Michael B. Katz of the Bacon Wilson law firm.
