CARROLLTON, Texas - Office furniture giant Steelcase, number 2 on the FDMC 300 list of largest wood firms in North America, will hire nearly 400 seasonal workers for new operations in Texas.

Steelcase is hoping to grow its footprint in Northern Texas and has purchased two industrial buildings in the area - adding more than 600,000 square feet of production space. The company will use the buildings for manufacturing and distributing beginning this summer.

"Our company has been on a growth trajectory," Allan Smith, Steelcase vice president of global marketing, said in a statement. "The location, along with the building's features, was the perfect choice as we made this acquisition."

Steelcase is worth $3.4 billion and employs more than 12,000.
