MEDFORD, WI - Hurd Windows and Doors was ighlighted for its success in manufacturing on a segment of "Made in America," the ABC News series featuring successful U.S.-based manufacturing businesses.
Hurd, which has built custom wood windows and doors for more than 90 years, was recognized for competing globally from millwork plants in Medford and Merrill, Wisconsin.
Hurd has exported products to more than 30 countries around the world, including Japan, Turkey, Israel, Philippines, Argentina, Ireland, Poland, India and Thailand. Hurd VP Product & Service Stu Brown cited examples of windows that were being exported to China and Canada during the program.
Hurd nationally markets all wood and clad wood windows and patio doors through its network of more than 400 distributors serving the residential and light commercial construction markets.
A large group of Hurd's Medford-based employees were also featured in the piece, showcasing some of the products that they had a hand in building.
"Our workforce has grown 10 percent in the last year," explained Hurd Window & Door president Dominic Truniger. "In the past 18 months, we've grown our workforce by 25 percent.
Earlier this year, Hurd was named 2012 Exporter of the Year in the Building/Construction/Hardware category by ThinkGlobal Inc., publisher of the U.S. Department of Commerce's Commercial News USA.
