Hardwoods Distribution expands operations; adds Egger to lineup

LANGLEY, B.C. - Hardwoods Distribution Inc. (HDI) and its three distribution brands: Hardwoods Specialty Products, Frank Paxton Lumber and Rugby Architectural Building Products have entered into a full-line distribution partnership with Egger GmbH, one of the world’s top wood-based materials suppliers for the interior, furniture, wood construction and flooring industries.  
 
Effective immediately, Egger brand Eurodekor Thermally Fused Laminates (TFL), decorative laminate, and edgebanding will be available for sale at 35 Hardwoods Specialty Products, Frank Paxton Lumber and Rugby Architectural Building Products locations in North America.  
 
“The justification of our close partnership with Egger in so many of our locations across North America lies in two areas. Egger is also providing holistic product solutions by offering perfectly matched TFL, decorative laminates, edgebanding and end-grain edgebanding, thereby simplifying the sourcing process for all these items and increasing customer satisfaction with the perfection of the finished project,” said Gord Clough, Hardwoods director of marketing. 
 
“We see in Hardwoods, Paxton and Rugby a strong partner that will provide Egger with an extensive infrastructure for logistics, sales, marketing and specification support for EGGER products and our growing A&D Team across the breadth of North America,” said Johannes Eder, Egger’s National Sales Manager Distribution North America. 
 
 
HDI has, as of Tuesday June 12, consolidated the Georgia operations into its existing Rugby Atlanta and Suwanee distribution facilities. Customer inquiries via phone and email now channel to the Rugby facilities. The Alabama distribution facility is now operating under the Rugby brand. 
 
“The consolidation of distribution facilities in Georgia and the addition of a new branch facility in Alabama provides additional size and scale in these attractive markets” commented Rob Brown, HDI’s President and CEO. “The transaction represents an appealing strategic fit of complementary product lines and suppliers, with minimal customer overlap. We have been successful with our acquisition strategy having now completed seven acquisitions in the last seven years, adding over $550 million of annual sales over that time period, and we will continue to pursue transactions that complement our internal growth strategies.”
 
HDI is North America’s largest wholesale distributor of architectural grade building products to the residential and commercial construction sectors. The company operates a North American network of 61 distribution centers, as well as one sawmill and kiln drying operation. 
 
Egger, founded in 1961, employs around 9,000 people. At 18 plants throughout the world, they produce an extensive product range of wood-based materials (PB, OSB and MDF boards) and provide timber. The company generated a turnover of approximately EUR 2.38 billion in the 2016/2017 business year. Egger has customers worldwide in the furniture industry, wood and flooring distribution.
