WESTMINSTER, Mass. - Longtime industry advocate and former executive director of the Wood Products Manufacturers Association, Philip Bibeau died Dec. 7 following complications from Lewy Body dementia. He was 67.
Bibeau joined the WPMA in 1995 as the director of Association Services. His leadership skills and commitment to excellence led to his appointment as executive director in 2000, and he continued to drive WPMA's success until his retirement in 2022.
Under his stewardship, WPMA flourished as a resource and advocate for small- to mid-sized wood product manufacturers across North America. He was instrumental in bringing national business insurance programs to the association and affordable FSC certification as a member benefit. Bibeau also was instrumental in organizing events, expanding the association's educational offerings, and fostering connections across the industry.
In making the announcement, Michelle Arsenault, WPMA executive director, stated, "Colleagues and members admired Philip for his ability to balance professionalism with a personal touch. He built lasting relationships with members, many of whom regarded him as not only a trusted advisor but also a genuine friend. His warm personality, integrity, and passion for the mission of WPMA made him an irreplaceable figure in the organization.
"Philip’s legacy at WPMA is one of service, leadership, and compassion. His impact continues to be felt by the many individuals and companies whose lives he touched during his long and distinguished career."
Bibeau is survived by his wife of 31 years, Lori, their beloved dog, Piper, family, and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Bibeau, who died on Dec. 7, 2008.
Born in 1957 in Gardner, Massachusetts, Bibeau earned a bachelor's and master's degree in Science, Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from Penn State University. He worked as a sales associate at Monadnock Forest Products, before joining WPMA in 1995. His final day with the association was Dec. 31, 2022.
