TOLEDO, Ohio — Inspired Lumber Workshop, a membership-based wood shop and shared workspace to access woodworking tools and equipment, hosts a six-week course for veterans. This program is the heart of their nonprofit organization, The Inspired Lumber Project, which aims to empower veterans, first responders, and neuro-diverse individuals through the art of woodworking.
The business grew out of a career change for Brian Kolin and his wife a few years ago after the pair were burnt out. He worked in IT for 25 years, while his wife, Anna, spent decades in marketing. Inspired Lumber is now their full-time job. Their initial goal was to give veterans suffering from mental health something to create with their hands. Inspired Lumber quickly grew to also teach first responders, children, and individuals with developmental disabilities.
"So thankful to our veterans—the reason this whole program was created — we are forever indebted to you for your service to our country," says Anna Kolin, co-founder of Inspired Lumber. "Thank you for your sacrifices. We are so proud to have you as part of this journey and look forward to growing both this program and our connection with each of you. To date, 100% of the 47 veterans that started have completed the program."
The next six-week course for Salute to Carpentry will be held November 4th - December 9th. To sign up for any classes, visit inspiredlumberworkshop.com/wood-shop-classes.
