LOS ANGELES – Furniture startup, Dims, recently launched an outdoor furniture line by Dutch designer Christian Heikoop, and now the Los Angeles-based company is gearing up to launch a line of furniture NFTs based on Heikoop’s designs.

Eugene Kim, Dims’s founder and CEO, said in a statement, “Crypto and smart contracts had been on our radar for years, but once NFTs took center stage last year, we started to understand how some of the technology could be harnessed for what we do.”

NFTs, or Non-Fungible Tokens, are interchangeable digital assets traded over the Internet. NFTs are generated and traded in cryptocurrency, which is digital cash with an encrypted key often in the form of a random string of numbers.

The luxury furniture brand is releasing a collection of 2,000 NFTs. And though NFTs can only be purchased with cryptocurrency, Dims has collaborated with Venly, a blockchain technology provider, so that customers can buy them in U.S. dollars.

Another feature of the Dims NFT is that it also includes a permanent coupon entitling the holder to 15 percent off all Dims merchandise for life. Owners can keep the NFT or sell it on the open market.

According to Kim, the proceeds Dims raised from the NFT sale will go toward recovering the cost of engineering, tooling, and prototyping the furniture. Kim also believes that NFTs will enable them to support a renaissance in emerging design in the future.

Dims is a modern luxury lifestyle brand that started in 2018. The company provides premium, one-of-a-kind furniture pieces. Dims works with talented designers such as Ladies & Gentlemen Studio and Norway-based Stine Aas. In the organization’s own words, it seeks out fresh and diverse voices in design and champions its work to a broad audience. Its products are made from ash wood sourced from sustainably managed forests.
