Arrests made in alleged robbery, attempted kidnapping at Amish cabinet company

Bradford James Hosler, 33, was arrested in connection with an assault at an Amish family's business and home. He’s facing multiple charges including armed robbery, attempted child abduction, and assault.

MIDDLEFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Three men have been arrested for allegedly robbing and assaulting an Amish family at their cabinet business and home, and allegedly threatened to kill the father and abduct his 8-year-old son.

The Geauga County Sheriff’s Office arrested three suspects after the Amish family was attacked on October 9. The family's name, and the name and address of their cabinet company were not released per a victim's rights law known as Marsy's Law.

The three suspects reportedly struck the man in the head, causing bleeding and swelling, and demanded money, then threatened to kill the man and abduct his 8-year-old son, according to Geauga County Sheriff Scott Hildenbrand and Prosecutor Jim Flaiz.

Speaking at a press conference, Hildenbrand said the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. in Middlefield Township, when three men from the Canton, Ohio, area posed as customers at an Amish cabinet shop before attacking the business owner and his family and stealing about $5,000.

Investigators tracked a stolen 2020 Chevy Colorado used in the crime, arrested the suspect, and confirmed he had been wearing an ankle monitor at the time. Lieutenant Jim Jonovich of the Sheriff's Office said that the three suspects first arrived at the residence and used a ruse to gain access to the victim's property.

"The suspects posed falsely as potential customers of the business and tried to gain the victim's trust,"  he said. "The suspects ultimately used physical force by placing the juvenile victim, an eight-year-old, into a chokehold-type restraint, to force the adult victim and his son into the house. The adult victim stated that he was placed under watch by one of the three men while his house was ransacked by the other two suspects. He reported that they separated him from his son, and they held his son hostage as they moved through the house searching for money."

In a redacted 911 call played at the press conference, the father told the operator that the suspects used a stun gun on him and demanded money from his 8-year-old son. The three men attempted to kidnap the 8-year-old, but the child was able to escape after the men tried to take him to their car. After ransacking the home, the suspects allegedly stole an estimated $5,000.

William Hatfield, 44, and Randall Crome, 36, have been arrested for their alleged invovement in a home invasion of an Amish family at their cabinet business.

Deputies and U.S. Marshals arrested William Hatfield, 44, and Randall Crome, 36, on October 15 in Canton. Felony 1 charges of kidnapping were filed against the men, but additional charges are expected to be forthcoming. T

Deputies arrested a third suspect, Bradford James Hosler, 33, on October 11 in Stark County. His charges reportedly include armed robbery, attempted child abduction and assault.
