Mainefurniture.org launches market site
10/25/2009 - John Richardson, (now) Former Commissioner of the Maine Department of Community and Economic Development, (DECD) expands on his "Growth from Within" policy by proposing a Maine SEO Council comprised of public and private stakeholders and charged with educating and assisting small business owners and government agencies in matters of web development and online marketing.

According to Richardson, "This action can put indigenous Maine products and small businesses at the top of the search engine in a matter of months, raising sales and creating jobs in the private sector at nearly zero cost to the State of Maine.N early 80% of consumer shopping is now done online. Maine is poised to grab more than its fair share in such natural resource industries as wood products and fishing".

www.MaineFurniture.org is a non-profit corporation created by Mark McKelvey, his brother, Nathan McKelvey, and former Maine State Representative, Stan Moody of Manchester. After a Sept. 2nd fire destroyed Mark's furniture making business in Gardiner, he pledged to commit his energies to promoting quality furniture makers and woodworkers in Maine - their histories and their products - and to brand "Maine Furniture" just like "Maine Lobster" and "Maine Blueberries" have been branded over the years.

“I will not stand by and watch this great industry languish," says McKelvey."We have the best furniture makers in the world, and we simply have to get the word out fast. This is a great first step, and I am proud to be working hand-in-hand with such an innovative state government that can react quickly to a changing marketplace.”

Richardson adds, "In the two short weeks since we created this link to www.mainefurniture.org in our website, www.MaineMade.com, they have shot to a #6 ranking on Google for the term 'Maine Furniture.'...We will be carefully watching and tweaking this development as a basis for more of the same in the future."

"Maine woodworkers and furniture makers are absolutely critical to any rebound in our economy"

Furniture makers in Maine will be provided with free storefronts on the www.mainefurniture.org site and should contact Mark McKelvey at: [email protected] for additional information...Maine furniture makers and woodworkers are encouraged to register on www.MaineFurniture.org so they can get featured (for free) and linked to their websites.

Mark McKelvey will do whatever it takes to get woodworkers an affordable website if they do not have one, or upgrade their existing website..He can be reached at 207-841-7361. The Maine Furniture Showroom/Office is located at 283 Water St., Gardiner, ME 04345.
