Herman Miller Recognized For Empowering Women in the Workplace

ZEELAND, MI - Herman Miller, Inc., was recently named one of three recipients of the 2012 Huntington Pillar Award given by the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) to companies who demonstrate outstanding dedication to empowering women in the workplace.

WRC will recognize Herman Miller, along with Aquinas College and Axios Incorporated, at a luncheon awards event on Wednesday, March 14 at the JW Marriot Hotel in Grand Rapids, Mich. The event will run from 11:45 am to 1:30 pm and is open to the public.

“These employers understand the value women bring to their business, as employees, as leaders, and as customers” said Sharon Caldwell-Newton, executive director of WRC. “They are pillars of support for working women and we are pleased to honor their contributions.”

Kerry Davis, founding member and former lead for Herman Miller’s Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) noted, “Our company culture promotes the idea that you can achieve your full potential, and that all of your unique talents and gifts can be utilized to make a difference in the communities in which we live and work."

The Huntington Pillar Award is West Michigan’s only award publicly recognizing employers’ contributions to the success of women in their workplaces. All three recipients are West Michigan headquartered organizations that have implemented a variety of innovative and progressive policies to empower women and ensure their recruitment, retention, and advancement in the workplace.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be recognized by this group,” said Mike Ramirez, Herman Miller’s Senior Vice President of People, Places, and Administration. “What’s most exciting is that this is really a grassroots effort that was supported, driven and embraced by everyone in the company. Herman Miller is a place for all people, and this is a powerful signal that we’re headed in the right direction.”
