In January 2024, millions of plastic tip-over restraint kits manufactured by Vietnam-based New Age Industries were recalled in the U.S. and now thousands of units distributed in Canada from November 2019 to March 2024 are being recalled.

This recall involves New Age Industries furniture tip-over restraint kits which included a plastic zip-tie, two brackets and two screws. They were sold and distributed in Canada by various furniture companies with clothing storage units. The date of manufacture should be listed on a sticker or stamped on the clothing storage unit as November 2019 or later. The packaging of the recalled tip kits is white with black lettering and includes directions on how to anchor furniture. The bottom of the packaging states “Manufactured by New Age Industries.”

Pictured is the recalled New Age tip restraint kit with the plastic zip-tie, two brackets, and two screws.

The plastic zip tie used with the recalled furniture tip kits can become brittle or break, which can allow a clothing storage unit that is anchored to the wall to detach during a furniture tip-over event, posing a tip-over and entrapment hazard that can result in death or serious injuries to children.

As of August 21, 2024, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada. In the United States, the company has received 2 reports of affected product breaking and no reports of injuries.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled New Age industries furniture tip-over restraint kits and contact Alliance4Safety to receive a free replacement kit.
