Forest industry stands strong
According to the Natural Resources Canada report, Canada has 9% of the world’s forest but is responsible for only 0.37% of the global deforestation occurring since 1990. Of Canada’s 367 million hectares of forest area, 155 million is certified to third-party forest sustainability standards. In 2022, the forest industry contributed $33.4 billion (1.2%) to Canada’s nominal GDP; wood products manufacturing accounted for $17.0 billion.
