Weekly Watch: Masco Jobs, U.S. Factories, Millennial Woodworkers

Working wood at Benchdog Collective in Hamilton, ON.

This week we're watching the help wanted at Masco, specifically 18 openings posted at bizjournals.com for Home Depot and Lowe's field sales representatives, but also internet specialists and Spoke safety manager in Fort Myers, FL, among other job listings. Positions include HR generalist in Duncanville, TX; internal audit analyst with Oracle experience, as well as a senior AIX manager, both in Ann Arbor, MI, headquarters town; and a plant engineer in Middlefield, OH. Here are the Masco job listings>>

Also on our watch, U.S. factories, which are expanding manufacturing capacity and re-opening mothballed plants in multiple industries, including wood. Fusion Furniture was the most recent, adding 100 people and breaking ground on a 100,000 square foot factory expansion.

And what about Millennial woodworkers? The men and women know no bounds, it seems, and have forged workarounds for the barriers to launching a woodshop - investment and marketing. Social media takes care of the marketing side, and being digital natives, it's a natural for them. That gives them a competitive advantage to entrenched interests, as their skills develop. Benchdog Collective in Hamilton, ON is a new one and you can see their video about who they are.

Sonny Marshall And then there is Sonny Marshall Studio, which opened January 15 in Long Beach, and whose owner Justin Sonny Marshall is one of the most creative and irreverent woodworking posters we've seen at Instagram.
