Overall sales stay steady for FDMC 300: 2025 special report

HON has expanded its Preside conference table series to meet the demand of modern, often hybrid meetings. The company is a division of HNI Corp. (#11).

Overall, 2024 was a relatively stable year for the FDMC 300, a ranking of the largest wood products manufacturers in North America. Some companies saw sales growth, some experienced slight declines, and many remained at the status quo. We also saw some companies depart for various reasons and welcomed a few new ones to this distinguished list.

The 2025 FDMC 300 is sponsored by (in alphabetical order): Daubert Chemical Co., DVUV, IMA Schelling Group, Panel Processing Inc., SATA, and Vortex Tool Co.

As a group, sales for the FDMC 300 — which includes manufacturers of furniture, cabinetry, architectural millwork, flooring, windows/doors, retail fixtures, closets/home organization, and other wood-related products — totaled $73.3 billion. (See About the FDMC 300, below, for information on how the list is determined.)

FDMC 300

At 44.7% furniture manufacturers comprised the largest dollar segment in this year’s group. As with last year, sales by contract furniture manufacturers outpaced residential, accounting for 23.4% and 21.3% respectively. This could be due in part to an uncertain housing market and the refurbishing of offices to attract employees back to on-site work. How this plays out in 2025, plus the impact of tariffs is yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, sales by manufacturers of cabinetry and closet products comprised 20.8% of the overall total, a percentage similar to last year. The retail fixtures and architectural woodwork segments remained relatively unchanged, accounting for 2.4% and 2.0% of the overall total. The specialty products segment, which includes musical instruments, was at 2.3%. Finally, the fenestration and flooring segment remains strong, accounting for 27.8% of FDMC 300 companies’ overall sales total.

The economy, labor recruitment and retention were among the top concerns in 2024 and continue to be in 2025, especially regarding tariffs. That said, many FDMC 300 respondents are projecting growth in 2025 — how much is yet to be determined.
An in-depth look at some of the market segments will be included in upcoming issues of FDMC magazine.
