Contract furniture firm Virco Mfg. Corp. (Nasdaq:VIRC), a manufacturer of school furnishings, reduced its workforce by 345 people, cutting its losses by almost half this year, from $3.83 million in 2012 to $1.73 million in 2013.
Sales fell 16% for Kewaunee Scientific, which builds lab furniture and architectural woodwork for commercial and academic customers. A strategy to move to dealer sales accounts for the drop, Kewaunee says.
