Tooling in IWF Challengers: LMT Onsrud's Polaris line

LMT Onsrud's new Polaris line of tools features an advanced coating to protect each cutting edge of the tool. This coating reduces wear and reduces heat build-up.  It is a finalist for a 2016 Challengers Award, to be given August 24 at the International Woodworking Fair in Atlanta.

Specifically designed for longer tool life in high pressure laminates and fire rated panels, Polaris uses optimized cutting geometry and wear resistant coating to minimize tool wear in all panel materials, according to the company.

The pre-coating process creates a more uniform cutting edge with microscopic refinement thus increasing the tungsten carbide’s resistance to fracture and wear.

Onsrud says this results in less downtime, fewer tool changes, fewer re-runs, fewer defects and decreased tooling costs. Three different types are offered.
