Martin's to display IWF Challengers Award-winning technology at WPE Lancaster

MANHEIM, Pa. – Martin’s Woodworking Machinery will highlight a pair of machines from Northtech at Wood Pro Expo Lancaster, Oct. 12-13 at Spooky Nook Sports.

Included is the Nothtech iDovetailer, winner of an IWF 2022 Challengers Award, and the new Northtech iGlue. Both machines will be among equipment Martin's Woodworking Machinery will feature at the Classic Machine Pavilion.

The iDovetail is a single-spindle CNC dovetailer with a three-axis system that gives it additional capabilities. iDovetail has eight profile modes that provide options from fixed-pitch dovetails to mitered mortise and tenon joinery, or even custom profiles such as stair tread returns. It uses a Windows-based interface with a built-in animated tutorial.

Northtech Machine
iDovetail has eight profile modes that provide options from fixed-pitch dovetails to mitered mortise and tenon joinery, or even custom profiles such as stair tread returns.

The eight-mode interactive platform offers users the ability to make a variety of joinery on boxes, face frames, or case goods on the fly via a touchscreen that incorporates common smartphone gestures such as pinch to zoom and swipes to spin the profile on any axis to see all sides of the parts. The operator can see the actual joint being created with a real-time 3D rendering that can be changed by a simple touch of a dimension. Being able to see the assembly before any parts are run allows the operator to see potential defects and make corrections before they are made.

According to Northtech, iDovetail is the first CNC dovetailer with servo positioning of the X, Y and Z axis, giving it the same capability as an inverted CNC machine. It can be used for wood or plastic materials.

Northtech iGlue
Once a part is placed in the iGlue, the machine secures, scans, and applies the exacting volume of glue to the part in seconds.

The iGlue by Northtech combines the versatility of hand gluing with the production and accuracy of automation when gluing female or male tenons to create dovetail joints. Once a part is placed in the iGlue, the machine secures, scans, and applies the exacting volume of glue to the part in seconds. In addition, iGlue does not require custom glue heads and eliminates set ups and change overs between sizes or varying dovetail designs.

iGlue part processing dimensions

  • Working width: 450mm (18")
  • Working thickness: 5-50mm (3/16" - 2")
  • Working length minimum: 100mm (4")
