VINCENNES, Ind. - Vincennes University’s Business and Industry Training program, through the Haas Technical Education Center, will be offering 15-week CNC machining classes starting Jan. 8, 2018.
Classes will be held concurrently in Vincennes at the Indiana Center for Applied Technology and in Lebanon at the Gene Haas Training Center. This program was specifically chosen and designed to meet the needs of Indiana employers and to provide job opportunities for veterans and underemployed workers. The Vincennes Center for Applied Technology was the location for last year's Day of Wood, sponsored in partnership with Purdue University.
According to Doug Bowman, director of VU’s Haas Technical Education Center, courses have been developed for individuals that may be new to the manufacturing environment. Students attend class five days per week for 15 weeks, resulting in six industry credentials in the high-demand CNC field.
Vincennes University recently opened a CNC Teacher Training Center is North America's first HTEC teacher training and certification center.
VU’s Right Skills Now CNC Machining program is designed to prepare veterans and civilian adult learners to become well-rounded, entry-level CNC machinists with upward mobility potential. The curriculum is a combination of machining theory and extensive hands-on training. By successfully completing the 600-hour course, 24 credit hours may be earned as well as a Certificate of Program Completion.
Students seeking assistance with tuition and fees may qualify for Indiana’s Next Level Jobs initiative which is part of Governor Eric Holcomb’s Next Level Indiana agenda to continue the positive momentum of the state. Two million Hoosiers need additional training to compete in the 21st Century workforce, and there will be over one million job openings in Indiana due to retirements and the creation of new jobs in the next decade.
