MONTREAL – Kastella, a manufacturer of custom millwork, collaborated for the first time with architectural firm Atelier Pierre Thibault on the woodwork and furnishings gracing a new home built on Lake Brome in the Southern Eastern Townships.

The architect was inspired by the majestic lake and natural scenery in designing the single-level dwelling. It features floor-to-ceiling windows to take advantage of the sweeping lakeside views and surrounding mountainous landscape. 
 
Kastella’s contribution to the project, which required more than a year to plan and complete, ranged from manufacturing integrated millwork to custom furniture production. The clients selected walnut with warm, caramel tones as the primary material, including the paneled walls and integrated case goods. The wood was coated with a water-based finish.
 
The kitchen created by Kastella includes two strategically placed 10-foot islands that maximize the lakeside views. The minimalist kitchen was designed with flat-paneled walnut cabinetry, open shelving, and black Fenix NTM countertops, reminiscent of Kastella’s furniture. The seamless flow of paneled wood walls and built-ins extends past the main living space and into the powder room, mudroom, and sleeping quarters. The master bedroom closets, as an example, serve as the backdrop for the king-size bed.   
 
In addition to providing custom millwork and collection furniture, Kastella designed outdoor furniture modeled after the central pieces in its collection. For example, a custom-length version of the company’s T107 dining table can be found in the covered outdoor eating area, as is an adaptation of Kastella’s C110 bench.
 
“The Lake Brome residence was a great opportunity for the company to collaborate with Atelier Pierre Thibault, a firm which Kastella has always held in high regard,” said Jason Burhop, who founded Kastella in 2003.
