VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The Backcountry Hut Company won Construction Project Design of the Year Award in the 2024 BLT Design Awards for its System 02 cabin created in collaboration with Leckie Studio.
The annual international contest celebrates excellence in architecture and construction of projects and products that advance the industry.
The System 02 is a two-story prefabricated structure that features a comprehensive kit-of-parts assembly system, including components made with FSC-certified Canadian wood. Designed to streamline construction, specifically for remote locations, it includes all necessary structural, wall, floor, roof, window, and cladding elements delivered flat-packed to the site for on-site assembly.
The System 02 cabin kit features a modular design that can be configured in multiple ways and sizes. The cabinet can be completed in four to six weeks, Back Country Hut said. He company added that it has more than 25 installations across Canada and the United States ranging from 691 square feet to 1,825 square feet.
“This award is an incredible honor for our team,” said Wilson Edgard, co-founder of Back Country Hut. “We are grateful to the BLT Design Awards for recognizing the hard work and vision behind System 02. Special thanks to Michael and Leckie Studio for their design expertise, our dedicated team, and our clients who continue to inspire us. This recognition drives us to push boundaries and continue delivering high-quality, transformative solutions.”
