WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Closets Conference & Expo 2021 opened Tuesday, June 8 with a large crowd of registered closet, home storage and remodeling professionals.
Keynoter Rich Harshaw, CEO of Level 10 Contractor, encouraged attendees to identify what differentiates them from competitors and focus on that in their marketing messages.
“People think you’re the same because all they have to on is what you show them and what you show them is the same as your competitors,” he noted.
Most marketing is rife with platitudes and puffery, he said. In that scenario, the company that wins the messaging war is the company with the largest advertising budget. In order for smaller companies to compete and reach revenue ranges over $10 million, they have to discover who they are, what they do differently, why they are better, and continuously point that out to potential customers at every point of contact.
Harshaw also told the attentive audience that marketing is essentially storytelling, but the key is “what story are you telling?” It needs to be compelling and in your brand voice.
After the keynote, Harshaw kicked off the all-day conference with a business workshop delving deeper into the previously discussed topics – how to identify what you do better than anyone else and how to market it to clients.
