WMS+Conference

TORONTO -- The most expansive educational woodworking conference ever staged in Canada takes place at the Woodworking Machinery & Supply Expo (WMS).

It's only fitting that the comprehensive conference is being held in tandem with WMS, Canada's largest woodworking event, October 27-29 at the Direct Energy Centre in downtown Toronto.

Valued advanced pricing of $25 per session ($35 at the door), makes the WMS Conference a must-attend for woodworkers looking for ways to increase operational efficiency, break into new markets and generate more sales.

With one notable exception, each of the conference sessions runs 60 minutes in length - long enough to provide valuable tips and instruction, but not too long as to distract from an attendee's ability to tour the expo hall laden with woodworking technology and supplies.

The exception to the one-hour time limit, is "The Essentials of Cost Estimating," which fills a 90-minute time slot. This popular program will be presented on each of the three days by Sean Benetin of Millwork & More of New Jersey. Benetin is immediate past president of the Cabinet Makers Association (CMA) and has conducted many variations of this program at the annual Custom Cabinet Conference and other U.S. trade events.Attendees of this and other CMA-sponsored sessions at WMS qualify to earn 1.0 CEUs as part of the association's new Professional Certification Program.

One-hour topics, most of them repeated on multiple days include:

  • "Lean Manufacturing: An Introduction”
  • “Five Cost-Effective Technology Ideas for Cabinetmakers”
  • “Sustainable Architectural Woodwork Certification: What’s in it for You?”
  • “Diversifying into Closet and Storage Products"
  • “Finishing for Small Wood Shops”
  • “Develop Your Human Resources to Leverage Your Time”
  • “New Wood Product Development"
  • "Using Diamond Tooling to Reduce Costs & Increase Quality"
