Texas Woodworking Show Enjoys Successful Three-Day Run

DALLAS, TX – The 7th biennial Texas Woodworking Show & Cabinet Conference completed a successful three-day run, March 7-9. More than 1,800 woodworking industry professionals and suppliers participated in the woodworking show, held at Market Hall of the Dallas Market Center. The attendance total included approximately 1,350 registered visitors and 460 exhibitor personnel.

Kuhl Assumes Expanded Editorial Role

Bassett Furniture to Close Wood Plant

BASSETT, VA – Bassett Furniture Ind. Inc. announced plans to cease operations at its wood manufacturing facility in Bassett, VA. The closure of the 323,000-square-foot facility is planned to begin within the next couple of months and will affect approximately 280 employees or 15% of the company’s workforce.

Residential Furniture Sales Continue to Fall

HIGH POINT – High Point consulting firm SmithLeonard’s latest survey of residential furniture manufacturers and distributors indicates that sales of new furniture still seem to be declining, according to The Business Journal. The survey found that orders for new furniture in January were down 7 percent from January 2006, which followed a similar decrease in December and November.

Slower Lumber Markets Predicted through 2008

PORTLAND, OR -- Following four straight years of record consumption, demand for lumber declined 6% in 2006 and is forecast to fall another 7.5% to 55.97 billion board feet this year, according to a new forecast issued by Western Wood Products Assn. (WWPA). Looking to 2008, WWPA predicts overall demand will slip 1.8% before rebounding the following year.
