United Furniture Expands North Carolina Operations

United Furniture Industries said it will use a former Linwood Furniture plant in North Carolina for distribution of its imported residential furniture products. The estimated 400,000-square-foot facility will be used for storage and distribution of bedroom and casual dining room furniture kits from Malaysia and Vietnam, to be sold under the Simmons brand.

Resolute Forest Halts Quebec Timber Operation

MONTREAL - High fiber costs and low market values have forced Resolute Forest Products to suspend indefinitely its wood-cutting operations in Quebec's Mauricie region near Trois-Rivieres. The suspension, which took effect November 27, affects at least 180 jobs.
