NeoCon 2009 Video: Steelcase shows collaborative workstations, easily customizable furniture

By Wade Vonasek

Kevin Kuske, general manager of Steelcase Inc.’s wood division, talks about enhancements made to Elective Elements 6, from the company’s Wood Solutions line, as well as some other products Steelcase is showcasing at NeoCon 2009.

Below, Kuske shows the additions to this year's collection as compared to products from last year. One major enhancement included a system to easily change the size and layout of a desk to fit a specific office's dimensions without having to build custom furniture. Kuske also shows a new docking area to accommodate six devices, which the company's research shows is the average number of gadgets office users need to plug into sockets.

In the footage below, Kuske shows Steelcase's new design for small, open workstations. Low walls between stations help builders meet LEED natural light requirements and plenty of open areas are designed to ease collaboration between workers.

In the video below, Kuske shows a bench-style, highly collaborative work area designed for teams that need constant interaction such as a product development team.

Another new offering from Steelcase at the show was premium veneer and finish options. Below, Kuske shows sustainable, easily-sourced premium veneer options for customers, including white quarter-figured ash, caramelized bamboo and sapele.
