Scm Group says it will bring its woodworking machinery into the "Mecca" of world furniture for the first time ever. At the 2013 Milan Furniture Fair April 9-14, the largest and most popular furniture expo worldwide, Scm Group says it will present its “I Wood Like - Handmade & digital crafting” event: a concrete, practical demonstration of how an idea for a chair, a table or an item of furniture becomes a finished product and how this can provide an business opportunities for many young people in the future, using technology.

The project involves Scm Group working alongside FederlegnoArredo - the Italian federation of companies involved in the transformation of wood and its derivatives - and Culturalegno - a cultural association that promotes the culture of wood and traditional, handcrafted and artistic woodworking - who will work together to demonstrate the transformation processes available as well as the underlying values and the possibilities that wood offers for creative experimentation, or entrepreneurship.

In a stand covering 480 square meters near the Salone Satellite – the area that the Furniture Fair has always set aside for young people, designers and up and coming companies –Scm Group and its partners will demonstrate how to transform raw materials into finished products using hand crafted processes (with practical demos by the Culturalegno Association) or ones that use more innovative, high performing technologies.

The Tech Z5 Scm Machining centre will be in action in Milan and will be used to create the “Vaulted Table”, a splendidly innovative “table/sculpture” designed by the London-based Bloomlab Architecture & Design.

In an adjoining area, FederlegnoArredo will present its work in support of the Nuovo Polo Formativo del Legno-Arredo, a new wood and furniture training centee, which will start operating in Brianza, Italy in October.

Scm Group, whenever ideas need to be transformed into reality… this year at the Milan Furniture Fair!
