Perfect Edging with the Fusion Edge by Doellken-Woodtape

Technological advances and product innovations in the decorative laminates market have opened the door to a wider range of options available from manufacturers when it comes to providing the perfect edge. Doellken-Woodtape, a division of the Surteco Group, showcased several of its innovative products at Interzum 2015, held in Cologne, Germany, in May. Under the theme: One Stop Design Solutions, the company highlighted its Fusion Edge and Digital Edge lines, along with additional edgebandings, offering customers a single source design selection.

The award-winning Fusion Edge was developed to achieve the zero joint line so popular in modern designs.  Fusion Edge is created through a co-extrusion of a two-layer edgeband: a 0.6 to 3 mm thick ABS or PP base layer, in the decor of the user’s choice, and a thin, integrated functional layer consisting of polymers and constituting the edgeband’s adhesive layer. It is colored throughout in the same tone as the top layer. The functional layer is applied to the panel using a high performance laser, plasma or other techniques and bonds to the board during processing via an invisible adhesion joint.

3D and Textured Surfaces

Doellken’s Digital Edge, part of its DesignLine collection, also is an award winner, taking home the Pro K-Award 2015. This new product offers the ability to print photo-realistic motifs, brand names, messages or themes on the face of the edgebanding.

Digital Edge, a highly customized product, has a repeat length of more than 2 meters to match the digital decors of the group. Surface applications for Digital Edge include retail, hospitality, corporate, educational or even healthcare environments.
Additional themes in the DesignLine collection include textured, embossed, surfaces with patterns in woodgrain, leather and more; high-gloss; and 3D which is applied on the backside of the edgebanding and is protected by a one or two millimeter layer of acrylic.
