Woodshop teacher a finalist for $100,000 grant
NEW LONDON, Wi. - A Wisconsin woodshop teacher is close to receiving a $100,000 grant.

Jerry Trzebiatowski, who teaches woodshop at The Starr Academy at Rawhide Boys Ranch, is one of 15 finalists out of thousands of schools that applied.

The contest, called "Thank America's Teachers", is sponsored by Farmers Insurance.

The Starr Academy at Rawhide Boys Ranch is an independent school for at-risk young men. The programs are designed to get these young men off the streets.

"I was one of those students back in the day, so I know where they're coming from. I know I can work with them and I know I can help them," Trzebiatowski told WBAY News.

Voting and more information about the contest can be found here.
