Which wood is best suited to laser engraving ? Here's a side by side comparison of alder versus cherry.

Alder and cherry seem to be the most popular wood species for laser engraving. Although the cherry engraving was slightly darker, the alder version seemed to be a little more detailed. It may e due to the heavy grain inthe cherry wood, which seems to interrupt the engraving somewhat. Since cherry wood darkens with age, the contrast will decrease over time.
