Fairwood Manufacturing doubles life of CNC router with MachMotion controller upgrade

MILLERSBURG, Ohio — Fairwood Manufacturing in Millersburg, Ohio, began having trouble with the legacy control on its 2002 C.R. Onsrud 96C12 twin-table CNC router, bringing production to a standstill.

The once-dependable router had grown increasingly unreliable. They had consistent trouble with the original AMC controller, spare boards, and inverter all showing signs of age. Downtime was becoming more frequent and sourcing replacement parts was a difficult task.

Rather than investing in a brand-new router, Fairwood Manufacturing’s Mervin Miller and his team reached out to MachMotion to explore a full control system upgrade. After an initial Machine Health Inspection, it was clear that the machine’s mechanics were still solid, the problem was with the outdated controls. MachMotion’s controller retrofit solution offered them a practical path forward: replace the electronics, modernize the interface, and restore the machine’s daily operations.

Fairwood's router got a new controller and updated electronics.

MachMotion’s installation team arrived on-site in early August of 2025 to complete the retrofit. Working closely with Fairwood’s production staff, they completed a full turn-key installation and operator training. Within days, the Fairwood’s router was back in full production and cutting parts consistently.

The transformation was immediate. Operators reported smoother motion, faster startup, and zero hiccups since the retrofit. What had been a major production headache just weeks earlier became a fully modernized, reliable system ready for years of continued service.

After the install, the team checked in with Mervin who played a key role in the success of the project. He coordinated the machine upgrade from start to finish. He told our team that “Everything went very smoothly from inspection to install. The install team was very professional, and came early every day ready to work.”

For Fairwood Manufacturing, the investment in a MachMotion CNC control retrofit delivered exactly what they needed: extended machine life, renewed productivity, and confidence that support is only a phone call away.
