This is the exposed side. I want the riser and the white piece to finish flush.

This is the issue. This gap is uneven and ugly. I want to make it tight and square.

Hello,

I am working on making a new stair riser + tread combination overtop of my old stairs.

Take a look at Image 3. This is the issue that I am running into at the end of my design process. This riser and the side white painted piece have gaps between them that I want to cover up or somehow make straight.

I have cut my risers to fit the right side stringer (which was warped) (shown in 'riser1' image).
I have cut my risers to finish flush with the left exposed side.

I want to put a similar piece to a mitered return on this riser to hide the end grain and finish the riser nicely. The issue is that my side piece doesn't have a perfectly flat surface to interface with the riser. I want to cover up this corner by having an overhang, but my riser is too short to extend past the exposed edge to cover up that intersection.

How can I cover up and finish this edge perfectly?

Thank you,

Best,

Parker
