BELLINGHAM, Washington — Grizzly Industrial introduces two wide-capacity planers for pro shops: the G0988 32" Extreme-Series planer and the G0989 40" Extreme-Series planer are equipped with 6-row V-Helical cutterheads, digital thickness control, and heavy cast-iron tables for consistent, finish-ready surfaces across countertops, large panels, and glue-ups, the company says. The G0988 is powered by a 15-HP main motor; the G0989 steps up to 20-HP for the heaviest stock removal. Both machines run on 3-phase power and come prewired for 220V with the option to convert to 440V.
“These planers were built for production shops and wide material applications. The wider capacity, V-Helical head, variable feed, and keypad thickness presets allows production to move from rough to finish with fewer passes and reduced time. Great for efficient and productive day-to-day operations,” said Pat Raynor, Product Manager, Grizzly Industrial.
Both models use a 5"-diameter V-Helical cutterhead spinning at 5200 RPM to deliver up to 31,200 cuts per minute. The indexable carbide inserts are positioned at a shearing angle and arranged in 6 “V”-shaped rows for reducing noise, minimizing tear-out, improving finishes, and efficiently directing chips for dust collection.
A micro-controller with keypad lets operators enter a target thickness, jog the table in 0.01"/0.1 mm increments, and save up to ten presets—ideal for batching common thicknesses with repeatable results. A Delta VFD-MS drives the variable-speed feed system from 16–59 FPM so shops can slow down for premium finish or speed up for rough surfacing.
The G0988 features a precision-ground cast-iron table; the G0989 upgrades to a precision-ground, chrome-plated cast-iron table for slick feeding and wear resistance. Dust collection is scaled for production: two 5" ports on the G0988 and three 5" ports on the G0989. Sound rating is 80 dB.
