Powermatic introduces the Model 4224B Wood Lathe. At over 900 pounds,4224B is the biggest, heaviest lathe Powermatic has introduced, says the company. Features include a sliding headstock with electronic variable speed and digital RPM readout for accurate speed adjustments and spindle lock and built-in spindle indexing on the headstock for drilling hole patterns, routing flutes and other features. The lathe’s vacuum system offers a quick means of chucking bowl blanks, says the manufacturer and the 15-amp quad receptacle is provided for easy reach of powered accessories. Also included: an air nozzle with quick connect for clearing dust and chips, two 100W task lamps for lighting, and a self-ejecting laser etched quill. An attached tool caddy offers access to centers, wrenches and more and the tailstock has internal storage for additional accessories. A magnetic-backed on/off switch can be moved anywhere on the machine. Accessories include both a 20” and 63” extension bed. The 20” extension bed kit provides a total capacity of 62”, a swing away function and an elevating assist. The 63” extension bed provides a total capacity of 105”.
