Ex-Klaussner employee files WARN lawsuit

ASHEBORO, N.C. — A former Klaussner employee filed a federal lawsuit on Aug. 10, a few days after the company shut down.  The plaintiff, Trey Chavis,  alleges the company did not give them at least 60 days notice, as required by the WARN Act. Chavis filed his lawsuit (1:23-cv-00876, Chavis v. Klaussner Furniture Industries Inc.) in a Delaware court requesting class-action status and a jury trial. WASHINGTON – A lack of existing inventory and solid demand helped offset rising mortgage rates and push single-family production higher in July, even as builders continue to grapple with elevated construction and financing costs as well as a lack of skilled labor, according to the  National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Overall housing starts increased 3.9% in July to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.45 million units, according to a report from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Census Bureau.
