WASHINGTON -- After repeatedly saying that the U.S. didn't need Canadian lumber and numerous repeated threats to add to import taxes to a big chunk of U.S. wood supply, lumber has been left out of Trump's tariff blitz. When President Trump announced reciprocal tariffs on a list of dozens of countries, lumber, composite wood panels and related products and other USMCA-compliant goods from Canada and Mexico were exempted.

The Green Science Alliance has set a goal of replacing chemical products with those derived from plants and natural biomass. The glue, roughly comparable to commercially available chemical glue, is a two-solution mixing type epoxy resin glue with a plant biomass content between 30-50%.

The deadline for submissions is September 2. Winners will be announced no later than December 31 and awarded $3,000, an engraved trophy, and royalties from sales of the design.

The Solution Partners division of the American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA) awarded $35,000 in education scholarships. Winners – all children of home furnishings industry workers – were identified during a live online event.
