MasterBrand Cabinets' $3.5 million purchase of a 137,095-square-foot facility in Lexington, NC, is part of the cabinet giant's plan to consolidate three operations in the area. New jobs will be created at the plant, which will begin production of cabinet doors and drawers in October. By spring, employees and operations from three nearby facilities also will be moved over to the plant.

An anti-bacterial coating for granite and other stone has been developed by Antolini, a quarry and stone curator. Based in Italy with U.S. distributors, Antolini says it is the first to apply the treatment - which it brands as A Zerobact - to stone surfaces. Intended for food preparation areas, A Zerobact is available on its newest Signature Stone Collection, and has certifications from the US EPA, EU for Food Contact Safety, NSF for Food Contact Safety. A stamp of authenticity is applied to all slabs treated with A zerobact.

Georgia-Pacific will close its engineered wood products facility in Phillips, Wisconsin, by the end of October, eliminating 53 jobs.

Quanex Building Products Corp. is acquiring cabinetry components maker Woodcraft Industries for $248.5 million in cash. The transaction by Quanex, a window and door components manufacturer, is expected to close in the fourth quarter.
